Kevin is a very successful CEO. I got to know him when he was CEO of one of my companies. He ran that quite significant business with great expertise and compassion. His greatest attribute is an ability to manage people. When the time came, sold at a good and fair price which made all investors (including us) a good return. That was some years ago now and he has continued his professional success.
In recent years our relationship has turned personal. I love Kevin very much and have seen him do things that I am not sure I would be capable of as a man and a father.
He lost a son several years ago now who had a very young son. Ever since Kevin has had joint custody of his grandson, raising him as his own. His remaining son suffers from addiction. He has had periods of recovery to build back his life but never seems to be able to hold it together.
Kevin’s story as a father is one of compassion, courage, and dealing with great adversity. It also gives me great insight into the impact addiction has on others. One of the core topics of this group is the father/son bond. How do we think about being a good father? How do we think about our impact on our father’s and their impact on us? Kevin has had to grapple with all of these issues very deeply and, as such, his talk will be informative, and inspiring, to men of all backgrounds, addicts or not, with kids or not. These are universal male questions that go to the core of who we are and where we find meaning.
Please join us and invite your male friends to come along too. This will be a great way to kick-off the new year and just the start of a series of speakers that I am incredibly excited about. I am so grateful to be walking this path with all of you. Namaste. Big Love.
