We spend so much of our lives trying to be different. It’s almost a badge of honor now — to be a misfit, to stand out. I have spent years sailing in this boat myself. But tell me honestly, don’t you secretly ache to feel belonged?
The world teaches us to stand out. Be different. Carve our own path. But no matter how fiercely we chase uniqueness, there’s a part of us — deep, primal, and very human — that just wants to feel seen. Safe. Understood.
In fact, psychologists Edward Deci and Richard Ryan call ‘relatedness’ — the need to feel belonged and connected as one of the three basic needs.
So when we convince ourselves that we don’t need to belong, we’re actually going against our own design. That’s something I’ve been unlearning.
The Shift: From Different to Human
We may package it differently — in careers and in passions. But underneath, we’re so much more alike than we think.
We all want to be heard, to be understood.
We all feel joy when someone validates us.
We all carry insecurities that we try to hide.
We all break and heal, again and again.
Different packaging, same human core.
Belonging Isn’t About Fitting In
You don’t have to try so hard to be unique.
You already are, in the ways that matter.
But you also share more in common with others than you think. So for once, let’s embrace the shared stories, the quiet universal experiences.
For once, look at humans like humans. Let go of the need to feel different. You’ll start embracing belonging.
And when you find it, you’ll realize…
It’s a beautiful feeling.
It’s a safe feeling.
I hope you feel belonged somewhere & experience it’s magic, soon ✨

There’s a hindi proverb I truly believe in — baat karne se baat banegi. It loosely translates to real talk can help you in unimaginable ways. So, talk it out to someone, trust me you’ll feel lighter. And if need be, I’m there for you. Let’s have a 1:1 talk session — a space for you to just be! Because don’t forget each and every one of us is worth it! That’s why we’re here!
