When these guys get a half-make-over, even they’re surprised at how they respond.
“It’s like a less painful version of being at the dentist.”
“It’s almost like a massage.”
“It feels like I’m getting grosser.”
These are some of the descriptors used by the straight guys in this video as they’re having makeup applied for the first time.
The goal was to feminize half their faces, and once the wigs are applied at the end there seems to be a unanimous shock — “I look like my mom,” one of them realizes in complete wonderment.
Watch as they gain a whole new respect for women, drag queens, and anyone else who puts their face on.

Wow, surprising. I never thought he’s look gorgeous with the makeup. Although I feel strange too when I look at him deeply. haha
Haha, I was surprise too at my first look. He’s look even better than before, maybe He should wear this makeup daily. Salute to the MUA, very talented skill.
I thought it was a most amusing video. I’m not sure what, if anything, can be learned from it but I enjoyed it a lot 🙂
Make up is used to look better or look different. Women have complained about how oppressive it is to try and attain certain standards of beauty. Is it really moving society forward to put makeup on men? I’m for equality of the sexes, but I’d rather equalize homelessness by sheltering more men than taking homes away from women. Men already make up about a quarter of people with eating disorders.
Josh, with the makeup, they did look like women and a couple them, pretty good looking at that. Even the guy with the beard …. not so bad.
“The goal was to feminize half their faces” I don’t see any feminization here; to feminize faces you need to change the bone structure and add hormones, that is the only way. In this video they are just applying makeup – something that is not “feminine” or “for women” by nature (in fact, in many cultures men still wear make-up and make-up was originally created for men to begin with). They don’t look like women; they look like how men look when with this kind of make-up art on and wigs, that is all. I find it really disturbing when… Read more »
So? And why does this show up under “masculinity?” Gay, transgender and bisexuals represent 3% of the population but GMP consistently puts “About Queerty” articles up under “masculinity.”
Hi, Tom. I put this in a topic we call Questioning Masculiity – although this is admittedly not reflected in the tag – because people do question the masculinity or “manliness” of men who wear make-up or look effeminate, and most men don’t understand the process women go through to make themselves up, whether they think that’s right or wrong. I liked this video because it showed a variety of men and reactions in this experiment, including ones willing to shave their beards for it (don’t know if they were paid, don’t really care…they did it). As for the source,… Read more »
What are you trying to say, oh forever ignorant Tom Brechlin? That gay, bi and transgender men are not, well, “men”? That they have no masculinity? That men who apply make-up are not “masculine”, that no cis and straight men wear make-up, that make-up can’t be part of masculinity…? And what the percentage of LGBT people has to do with everything else, that makes them less important, I guess?
Tell us more about that.
Did I say that Josh? The truth is that the majority are not bi, transgender or gay.
JJ Vincent. Thank you for the explanation, …. I guess that’s all I was wanting is to understand the rational. Perhaps similar may be found where it’s not designated gay? Having worn women’s makeup myself, I simply don’t have the body or legs to pull off Frank N. Furter. My wife on the other hand, with a good wig does pull off a good Magenta.
Tom, I would love to see this on/being discussed on other media outlets. And maybe it is. My personal ethics guide me to link to where I found it. Josh K, I agree, there is nothing inherently feminine about make-up. In this case, it was typically-used-by-women women’s makeup being used to make half of their faces look like women’s (made-up) women’s faces. Make-up also makes people aged, or like monsters, or parodies of ______. Had the article been about aging, I believe the writer would have said “Aging Makeup” and “age half their faces”. I would say, though, that the… Read more »
