Standing Orders of Early Parenting, by Joshua J. Lyon, BSQP (Bachelor of Science Qualified Professional — mental health)
- The dawn is when the French, Indians, and first playtime attack. Keep the playtime short and get them back to bed, unless you want to raise a morning person
- Keep a phone charger or external battery next to the rocking chair
- Before you begin the process of putting the baby to sleep, make sure their nap area is already ready with your camera, lighting, etc.
- Crying while eating doesn’t always mean they don’t like the milk, it could be a tell that they pooped. After a good poop, sometimes they need to play a little before trying to put them to sleep again, too
- Things get worse before they get better. The baby can begin to cry harder and fight sleep more right before the light at the end of the tunnel turns on
- Putter. For whatever reason, the baby sleeps lightly; whenever they’re put down to sleep, they wake up. Nothing can be done, we push and push, and never get home. Phoning an experienced, yet motivated baby enthusiast is never frowned upon
- The quicker the response to a woken baby, the quicker you go back to sleep
- Before laying the baby down, make sure they are fully emerged in sleep (for example, by wiping the milk from their mouth).
- Holding them for an extra 5 minutes can sometimes help secure a successful takeover and prevent a quick wakeup
- It is common for some babies to toss and turn while sleeping
- Throwing up can merely be a sign the baby doesn’t like the milk
- Babies can arise without warning, always have non-expired milk ready at a moment’s notice
- Do not let slumber keep you from parenting duties, the rest of your day will thank you; same as your future will thank you for being prompt and fully present with your baby. Do not do anything that will hinder a healthy return on good training.
