Maybe you wouldn’t call him a pioneer but I do. I’m biased.
Let’s say your dad is transgender and you’re a surprised man in your 20’s; what do you do? How do you handle it? It might freak you out but you’d deal with it, right? You’d find a way work through it. You love her.
But if you’re Sam Clark, you create a comedy sketch out of it. You know laughter might help put it all into perspective. And yes, his dad really did courageously transition when Sam left to go to college. I don’t know many young straight men that would handle it as gracefully as Sam did, and to live it “out loud” like this shows what a rarely authentic talent he is.
Watch this video. And keep your eyes on this guy, he’s going places.
Sam Clark is someone close to my heart.
This brilliant young man has constantly worked his butt off seeking improvement since I met him when he was eight years old. With a ‘geek safety strap’ tied onto his glasses, he bravely stepped onto the martial arts mat with this undying internal desire to be strong. He was an inspiration. He thrived. We laughed a lot and he took things in stride when he was challenged. Sam wasn’t built like the physically coordinated kids; he had to work at it. Mentally gifted, yes. Physically gifted, “not-so-much.” He changed all that. Not only did he become a phoneme as a 3rd Degree Black Belt, he fought at Nationals and on the Harvard team. Sam had already won my undying respect by the time he called me his “second mom.”
Those same skills that helped him flourish as a child, are what help him move through life now. Watch him—he’s going to stun and amaze us all.
