There is a recent paper, The connectome of an insect brain, exploring that “a brainwide, synaptic-resolution connectivity map—a connectome—is essential for understanding how the brain generates behavior.” It mapped “the entire brain of a small insect, the larva of the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster. The complete synaptic-resolution connectome of the Drosophila larval brain comprises 3016 neurons and 548,000 synapses.”
There is a new book, Malady of the Mind: Schizophrenia and the Path to Prevention, that concluded that schizophrenia is a malady of the mind. The book discussed the role of genes, touted psychopharmacology and praised the success of the OnTrackNY program for its attentive care.
There is another recent paper, Depression as a Disorder of Consciousness, connecting the global states of consciousness to a depressive state of consciousness. It discussed psychedelic psychiatry as another option to psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy, the two key treatments for major depressive disorder.
There is a recent article, Are women really more mentally ill than men? As a psychologist, I’m not so sure, that stated that “in the UK, being a woman means you’re three times more likely than a man to have a mental health problem. Rates of self-harm among young women have more than tripled since the 1990s.”
It should be considered incomplete to discuss anything connected with the mind, without seeking what could be there in the human mind?
Every mental health crisis is off the mind. Serious mental illnesses are problems of the mind. When therapies work, they do so by properties acquired across destinations in the mind. Depression is the mind not the brain. A connectome is cool to the extent that it can reach into understanding the mind.
Consciousness is the mind. Consciousness is the rate at which any system can know, with unity as its maximum. All states of consciousness including minimal consciousness and vegetative states can be graded on what can be known in those states: such that while exteroception is low or closed out, interoception gets on, functions or is known, without awareness.
What are the components of the human mind? When certain genes are expressed via neurons and play a role in behavior, the last stop for that is the mind. The brain does not generate behavior without the intermediary, the mind. The cells and molecules of the brain build, structure or construct the components of the mind. GABA is the brain, mood is a property in the mind.
All memory, feelings, emotions, reactions, behavior, speech, language and so forth are also the mind. How does the human mind function and what is its structure?
The mind is within the brain, but the brain is not the mind. Its components are different. Some centers of the brain and locations of the mind overlap, however, since multiple brain centers are implicated in multiple roles, they are to the mind, degrees or extents of properties to be acquired.
The human mind is infinite. Conceptually, its components array into segments that cannot be traced. There are often new properties within the mind, as well as new sequences, splits and so forth. There are properties that are there but not accessed. There are sequences that are used for just one time, but remain. There are quantity pre-prioritizations, or indicators of properties in the principal spot, that are unique, numerous and endless.
The human mind has two major components, quantities and properties. Quantities, as dots, relaying, and properties as shapes, near static. All functions of the mind can be subsumed in these two, as well as their characteristics.
Neuroimaging plays a large role in brain science, cognitive science, psychiatry, psychology and related fields, but neuroimaging does not unravel the mind. It is the mind that can determine normality, disturbance, mental health, illness, consciousness and so forth.
The brain generates the mind, conceptually, from the relay hubs of sensory processing. The mind determines all experiences, with the quantities that acquire properties.
