I can’t do this because I’ve never done it before.
I will fail. I will embarrass myself.
I can’t talk to people because I’m not interesting enough.
I can’t do this because I don’t have what it takes.
I can’t learn because I’m not intelligent enough.
I can’t be the best in class because I’m not smart enough.
I can’t succeed because I’m not talented.
I can’t achieve my goals because I don’t have the right opportunities.
I can’t change because I’ve always been like this.
I can’t start now because it’s too late.
I can’t try because I might fail — and failing is terrifying.
I can’t be successful because I don’t have the right connections.
I can’t do this because I don’t have enough experience.
I can’t follow my dreams because I have responsibilities.
I can’t work on myself because I don’t have time.
I can’t push myself because I feel drained all the time.
I can’t step out of my comfort zone because it’s too risky.
I can’t be great because people like me don’t succeed.
I can’t put myself out there because I fear judgment.
I can’t do it because I’m too young — people won’t take me seriously.
I can’t do it because I’m too old — it’s too late to start.
I can’t stand out because I’m too shy.
I can’t take action because I lack motivation.
I can’t grow because I’m not hardworking enough.
I can’t be happy because life is unfair.
I can’t change my life because I’m not lucky enough.
And the list goes on and on…Does any of this sound familiar?
If you resonate with any of these thoughts, my friend, you are making excuses — yes, excuses.
You might think your struggle is real, that your problem is genuine. But even then, it’s an excuse. Why? Because someone out there, in a much worse condition than yours, has managed to rise above their circumstances and achieve what they set their mind to. If something is holding you back from achieving your dreams, it’s not your circumstances — it’s your excuses.
“If it’s important to you, you’ll find a way. If not, you’ll find an excuse.” — Ryan Blair.
“Excuses are lies we tell ourselves so that it doesn’t have to be our fault.” — Robin Sharma.
“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” — Theodore Roosevelt
I know this because I’ve done it too. I’ve made excuses. I’ve blamed my situation, my surroundings, and even other people. But deep down, I knew I was just comforting myself with these excuses. If you’re doing the same, it’s time to step out of this illusion.
STOP. PLEASE STOP.
It’s the worst mindset to be in because it keeps you trapped. But here’s the good news: you can take small steps toward your goals, no matter where you are right now.
- Don’t let fear hold you back.
- Don’t let your limiting beliefs define you.
- Don’t let people’s opinions stop you.
- Don’t let your conditions restrict you.
- Don’t let your age discourage you.
- Don’t let anything hold you back.
If you think, I’m not capable enough to do this, ask yourself: Have I ever truly used my full potential?
The answer is no because your capabilities are infinite.
“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t — you’re right.” — Henry Ford
“A year from now you may wish you had started today.” — Karen Lamb
“You can have results or excuses. Not both.” — Arnold Schwarzenegger
So, stop making excuses.
Write down what needs to be done, and do it. Do it for yourself. Don’t hold yourself back.
If you truly believe you can do it, no power in this world can stop you.
Start taking action. Now.
