The former Ambassador to the UN has not seen online sentiment ratings higher than 40 percent positive since his appointment to President Donald Trump’s Administration in April. Now, Bolton is posting 82 percent negative opinions after two seriously unpopular moves. On Tuesday, Bolton announced that the White House cybersecurity coordinator role had been eliminated in an effort to streamline authority for the National Security Council. However, critics said that the decision may have left the American government vulnerable. “It’s frankly mind-boggling that the Trump Administration has eliminated the top White House official responsible for a whole-of-government cyber strategy at a time when the cyber threat to our nation is greater than ever,” Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) told Wired on the day of the announcement. Then, North Korean leaders all but begged Trump to keep Bolton away from negotiations after the man with the walrus mustache suggested that Libya could serve as a diplomatic model in negotiations with Pyongyang. North Korea did not take kindly to that suggestion, perhaps since Libya agreed to give up its nuclear program in 2003, saw strongman Moammar Gaddafi deposed and killed in 2011, has been embroiled in civil strife ever since. Now, Trump is walking back Bolton’s comments. “The Libya model isn’t the model that we have at all when we’re thinking of North Korea,” Trump said Thursday. “That country was decimated.” –Hugo Guzman
