Part 1 of 4
Recently I spent some time at a quiet cabin in the Endless Mountains of Pennsylvania, a sleepy little town, so remote cellular service rarely existed, and the internet was sporadic. Just a place to work and think.
I experienced much more on that trip than I had anticipated. As I looked into the eyes of people in different stages of life — the eyes of the young, the middle-aged, and the dying — I came to this quiet place for my own comfort but found myself trying to comfort others — a little girl whose precious joy of life was being stolen, and an old woman whose precious blood of life was slipping away. Looking into their eyes, I was reminded of why we were here. It’s the desire and the universal need for deeper human connection; it gives us purpose and ties us together.
In today’s age of countless issues that polarize and isolate us, please take a minute to remember that many things we worry about all day rarely matter. Ultimately, it’s only love, kindness, and human connection. Our lives are delicate; no one could imagine they would step on one small slippery part of a 3.5-mile trail and fall to death. Life and relationships are fragile and should be fiercely protected. Please love one another just a little bit more today.
