There are a lot of common phrases that we, as white folks, hear all over the place and probably have even said in the past that have a pretty deep coded racial messages that we may not even realize.
But as of this moment, consider yourself warned.
When you say these common phrases, you’re sending a message out into the world about your internal narrative about race. “Ghetto” and “Sassy” may not have crossed your mind before as words with a racial element, but it’s time you think twice about them.
What other words do you think have racial coding to them? How do “dog whistle” type of words affect the people around us and what can we do to help combat this messaging?

Duh. If it were coded, then it would be the speaker coding it, or it would be irrelevant to the conversation. Are you promoting thin-skinnedness, or what is your point? You can’t expect other people to know your list of buttons until they get to know you. There are many more races on Earth than the few we are taught to notice, as a method of social division. Don’t fall in line with that intent. Soon we will all be Earthlings meeting people of all colors. Who cares?
