Where are these warriors today? They’re awakening the great calling we all have within us, not by speeches or sermons, but by living in a manner that transforms the world within others.

I remember a plaque that my dad had that read: A Warrior Is Not Geared Towards Winning or Losing. A Warrior Is Geared Towards The Struggle.
I always felt this to be appropriate, not because we should be in a constant state of struggle, but because we as human beings possess the ability to end all struggles. Until the struggles of all others are alleviated, our true purpose and calling as human beings has not been served. For some, this sounds like a tall order. For others, this sounds impossible because we are taught there will always be struggles of poverty, violence, and hurt, and we should just do what we can and leave everything else alone so that we can be “centered”, “happy”, “peaceful”, and “balanced”. I agree that we should be centered, happy, peaceful, and balanced. The center of the warrior is happy, peaceful, and balanced. The warrior center is maintained in alleviating struggle and pain in the lives of others to restore balance, happiness, and peace in the world. The warrior has these treasures by giving their lives away, which is simply a replication of what The Creator has done for us.
The warrior knows that there is no greater calling than giving away our lives with love as the anchor and intention. The greatest attribute of warriors is love. With love as the anchor and intention the warrior walks in selflessness, and a fearlessness that awakens this calling in others. Some refer to this life way as imbalanced, unrealistic, impractical, and impossible. Throughout history the impossible has always been the job of the warriors. Throughout history the impossible has always been revealed as possible because of the warriors. With love nothing is impossible, and without love a warrior does not exist.
Where are these warriors today? They are in all of our communities. They are out in the streets reaching out to the hurting. They are under the bridges giving food to the hungry. They’re in the parks seeing those who have been discarded by society as nothing less than miracles, blessings, and gifts. They are opening shelters and food banks. They’re visiting and caring for the elders. They’re guiding people back to the understanding of their greatness. You can find them in the correctional institutions reminding people that they’re so much more than the worst thing they’ve done. They’re at the schools after horrific tragedy comforting others by just being there. They’re responding to crisis calls day and night. They’re not sacrificing; they’re giving because they’re in love. They’re listening, always listening, and allowing others to realize their own answers and be their own experts. They’re awakening the great calling we all have within us, not by speeches or sermons, but by living in a manner that transforms the world within others, so that we as humanity can transform the world outside of ourselves. They’re working hours that only love can provide the energy to do. The love they walk in reaches those who others have labeled as “unreachable”. The love they speak with teaches those who others have labeled as “un-teachable”.
The warriors in all communities are also the first ones criticized by those who are unwilling to live the great calling we all have. They’re scrutinized by those whose insecurities come to the surface and need someone to blame. But the warriors do not blame. The warriors do not attack or defend; they simply protect the truth that all life is Sacred. They don’t expect the people who were on the 5:00pm news talking about problems in our community to be with them on the front lines at 3:00am providing solutions. They realize that after the town hall meeting only a few who were complaining at the meeting are truly willing to go where they go. The warriors go to the darkness and deliver the light of love. They know the light they deliver will always change the darkness, because darkness can never change the light.
Real warriors know that the struggle isn’t living in love. The struggle exists outside of love, which is the cause of nightmares that need not be. Real warriors love.

I thank you for your comment. It is a profound contribution to the great calling of warriorship. I completely agree with Sitting Bull, and this quote from him is also one of my favorite quotes of his.
Thank you for all you do. Many blessings to you and your family.

One of my combat instructors would drill into our head this quote every day to remind us why we fight.
Warriors are not what you think of as Warriors.
The Warrior is not someone who fights,
because no one has the right to take another life.
The warrior, for us, is one who sacrifices himself for the good of others.
