Consciousness is theorized to be a super qualifier. Qualifiers act on the functions of mind. Subjective experience is a qualifier of functions. It is often equated to consciousness, but there is no subjective experience without attention or at least, awareness. Attention indicates priority on the mind, hosting main vision. Awareness is less than attention but still processed. It hosts peripheral vision or ambient sounds.
Attention is a qualifier. Awareness is also a qualifier. Intent is a qualifier, stepping in, across experiences over non-intent. Intent can determine a subjective experience. If there is a sight in awareness, but uncertain, it is possible to direct focus there, for attention, indicating that intent may deepen subjective experience, qualifying it. It is possible to hear a sound over and over, such that when it is heard the next time, even if attention goes to it automatically, intent may return it to awareness, lessening subjective experience.
Consciousness collects all these qualifiers, whose impact varies degree from function to function. This means that some memory may not be conscious, until qualified by the parameters. There are several capabilities of the human mind that do not appear, until qualified.
This does not mean that consciousness can only be defined by the functions that are qualified in an instance. There are—often—several interchange of qualifiers across functions under a second and important functions get minimum to maximum qualifications within intervals. Qualifications strengthen functions. Deficiencies may lead to a loss of function. Absence may place sleep, coma, substance influence or general anesthesia.
Also, there is no function at any time on the mind that totally lacks qualifications, though the degree, duration or the number of qualifiers may differ. This makes consciousness continue in mitigated forms across functions of the mind.
How?
It is postulated that within the spaces where the mechanisms of functions are carried out are where the qualifiers are based. This means that functions are not just mechanized but that what qualifies them are within, which may or may not often do to certain extents—even when the functions get their work done.
Some qualifiers complete functions, like attention, where it is required to listen carefully or look properly. The self can also complete some functions, where touching something hot is not just a detached, depersonalized or dissociated experience, but subjective in a way to remove the hand for safety.
How do functions and qualifiers work in the mind? What is the human mind?
The mind is proposed to be the collection of all the electrical and chemical impulses of neurons, with their features and interactions. Electrical and chemical impulses are, conceptually, in sets, in clusters of neurons. Their features—in sets—bear the qualifiers.
It is hypothesized that in sets, electrical and chemical impulses have fuse briefs, becoming how they define their functions. This means that experiences are primarily created when, in a set, electrical impulses fuse into an available configuration of chemical impulses.
Conceptually, different chemical impulses in a set contribute rations towards a formation or configuration, which is how information is organized. This formation holds memory, thoughts, feelings, modulations, perceptions, sensations and so forth.
Formations define functions like interpretation, integration, representation and the rest. Chemical impulses hold the formation, electrical impulses carry them. The features have different actions that make them qualify what impulses do. This includes rotation for the most ration [for attention], side-to-side density variation [for subjectivity], a space of constant diameter in the width of the formation [for intent], and a regular ration [for awareness].
There are other features like distribution, sequences, splits, principal spot and others that can qualify functions.
Consciousness is like the workstations on an assembly line, where something, in the process of being made, gets additions, shaping what that thing becomes. Without the additions as qualifiers, consciousness is absent.
Generative AI has some additions, away from non-organisms. It has some form of attention, awareness, identity or part-self, and a low version of sub-intent.
