Tomorrow marks the beginning of America’s favorite once-a-year-behind-football-and-baseball pastime. March Madness. When the brackets come out tomorrow, you’ll want to be in the know. GMP Sports is here with another edition of Sports Explained: March Madness.

The first thing you need to do when those 68 schools are picked and seeded is get your bracket and start picking your winners. Some go by mascots, other go by colors, some even have the audacity to do some homework and give educated guesses.
Whatever you do, don’t take it this far.

Filling out your bracket should be an enjoyable activity, not a maniacal one.
Once you’ve got your bracket filled out, or several brackets done, you’ll need to pick a place to watch the game. You can do it at your office, but then again do you want this happening to you every time a game comes down to the final minutes?
If you must be at the office, particularly for the first round of games (kicking off on Wednesday, March 18th), we recommend taking advantage of one of several iterations of ‘Boss Button‘ apps. These nifty pieces of software allow to you toggle quickly between the live streaming video feed of the games and say, something that looks like a spreadsheet. (Hence preserving the hundreds of millions of dollars of revenue lost to businesses, as well as your job.)
However, my expert suggestion is to call in sick, and let’s be honest, everyone calls in sick.
Call up your buddies and head to Sal’s house. You know, the guy who loves showing off his man cave.
Anything pretty much goes during the Madness, my one caveat is this: Honor the Nacho Rule.
Now, the NCAA tournament and the viewing of this event are all-inclusive and no one should ever be left out of its pure awesomeness. If you have a bracket, you belong.
Even if you don’t have a bracket, there are 68 different schools with different colors and mascots, you can find someone or something to cheer for, or just enjoy the company. If you’re not a big fan, however, just sit tight and enjoy the ride. No need to pretend or try to talk a big game.
There’s nothing more awkward than when someone shows up who does not know a lot about basketball, but tries to play it off like he does. Like the quote from Rounders, “If you can’t spot the sucker in your first half hour at the table, then you are the sucker.”
For three weeks, the whole nation will be transfixed on college athletics. So catch the fever, enjoy the madness. There will be moments of joy, instances of shock, and everything else in between.
If you don’t believe me, take the artist formerly known as Lil Bow Wow’s word for it.
I like slam-dunks that take me to the hoop
My favorite play is the alley-oop
I like the pick-n-roll
I like the give-n-go
And its basketball Bow Wow lets go
