I’ve always carried a quiet guilt inside me — the guilt of not being able to make “good” friends. And maybe this gap I feel doesn’t come from others, but from within myself. I do have friends, at least in the technical sense. But deep down, I know they aren’t the kind of friends I truly long for.
I rarely ask anyone for help, yet there are moments when I expect some support, some understanding. And I can’t ask for it, because I know expectations often hurt more than the situation itself.
The truth is, I give too much.
More than what people ask from me.
More than what they even need.
Whether it’s guidance, listening to someone’s hurt, or simply being there — I offer my time, my emotions, and my presence without hesitation. And maybe that’s exactly what makes me feel less valued. Because when you’re always available, people forget to value your presence. They take your kindness as a default setting rather than a choice.
I want to be someone others can talk to when they’re sad. I want people to feel safe enough to share their confusion, their worries, their questions. I genuinely want to help.
But sometimes, this desire to help becomes a burden I never intended to carry.
And what hurts the most is this: when someone asks for help, I give them my 100%. I take their words seriously, their emotions seriously, their problems seriously… but they don’t always treat my efforts the same way. What feels important to me is often just a “mood” for them — something they handle casually, while I carry it deeply.
Now, slowly, I’m learning to detach.
To separate myself from people who do not deserve my sympathy, my time, or my emotional effort.
Not out of bitterness, but out of self-respect.
I’m trying to accept that not everyone thinks the way I do.
Not everyone loves the way I do.
And not everyone values what I value.
Maybe this is growth.
Maybe this is self-awareness.
Maybe this is me finally learning that caring is beautiful — but caring for the wrong people is self-destruction.
