Last week, I procrastinated a task, pushing it to tomorrow. The next day, I pushed it back to the following day, and the day after.
If I continued with that mindset of “doing it tomorrow”, I wouldn’t have completed it. There will always be another tomorrow.
You’ve committed this crime at least once in your life.
I will…
- Study tomorrow
- Take out the trash tomorrow
- Call her back tomorrow
- Apply for the course tomorrow
- Write tomorrow
What’s the damage of pushing it to another day?
I remember pushing back revising for an examination until the night before. It was horrendous. I had so much information to consume in a short time. And the feeling sucked.
When you procrastinate a task to the next day, you might end up forgetting it or worse — losing an opportunity.
My mum used to be in-and-out of the hospital due to diabetes. I told myself, I’ll visit her tomorrow. Tomorrow never came for her. I didn’t get to talk to her (in person) on her last day.
I’ve lost a couple of friends before I kept postponing a reply to their message. It could be a week before I reply with an “I forgot to answer” text.
If you could do it now, do it.
Some errands are so mundane that you just want to push it to another day. But your “to-do” list won’t get done and you’ll end up with more tasks to do the next day.
What are some things you’ve put aside?
