If you want to have a deeper appreciation for life, asking yourself what’s the purpose of life is a good place to start. Knowing your answer to this question can provide a frame of reference for how you should live your life and motivate you to focus on what you value in life.
Even though this is a difficult question to answer, I’m going to provide my perspective for what I believe are quality goals for living.
My two main goals (read: purpose) are as follows: Live a life where I,
- always seek ways to better myself,
- and get married and raise a child/children.
In addition to understanding what gives life purpose, I believe it is important to also identify things that can add value to life. Broken down into four categories, here are some of those things.
Happiness
Smile more and frown less.
As someone who has struggled with my mental health since I was in high school, I want to tell you that smiling more is essential to happiness.
In The As If Principle: The Radically New Approach to Changing Your Life author Richard Wiseman explains how we can take control of our emotions. Drawing on research from James Laird, Wiseman writes about how smiling can instantly make us feel happier. In addition to explaining how we can feel significantly happier when we force our face into smiles, he mentions that frowning makes us feel significantly less happy.
Life Lessons
Simple things like drinking more water, exercising, expressing gratitude, and meditation, if done every day, will significantly improve the quality of your life.
Etiquette
Treat everyone the way you want to be treated, unless they give you a reason to treat them otherwise.
Religion
Trust in God! Simply put, Religion provides what science can’t.
“The Kingdom is reflected in our character and how we treat others.” – Mark Powell (SouthPoint Fellowship)
Have you identified your goals? I encourage you to do so.
