Although it looked as though a conservative Republican plan put forth by Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina might be a solution, it was Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) who announced last week that they have struck a deal with President Donald Trump to safeguard DACA. But there’s one big catch: DACA 2.0 could include a huge border security funding package. DACA enshrined in law would probably look similar to the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act (better known as the DREAM Act) first proposed in 2001, but Social is saying no to any DREAM Act that includes border funding. DREAM Act on its own carries 59 percent approval ratings, while a “clean DREAM Act” that doesn’t include border funding rides high at 86 percent positive. Pelosi may have seen those results in the flesh on Monday when DACA supporters shouted her down at a press conference in San Francisco for even thinking of compromising with Trump. –Hugo Guzman
