What are
the things
you hate that
people hate?
People have always hated things. That has always been a fact. But thanks to the Internet, people are now able to express their dissatisfaction to a degree that is unprecedented in human history. It’s an intoxicating feeling to have the ability to vent your frustrations with abandon (usually anonymously) and without consequence. There are even whole (terrible) websites devoted to people doing exactly that.
And because of this, we know find ourselves in the position of seeing people unleash their splenetic rage at things that we have never even considered to be hate-worthy. Even worse are those moments when that rage is directed at something we genuinely love and whose existence makes us actually feel better about humanity.
Thus we are put in the weird headspace of hating other people’s hate–a kind of ouroboros of loathing that leaves a pall of negativity whenever it arises. Some do the sensible thing and run away from it and find warmer, less angry pastures, while many of us run head long into it before we even know what we’re doing and suddenly find ourselves engaged in invective filled “debate” with a complete stranger whose view of the world is apparently antithetical to our own.
In general I try my best (and often fail) to avoid expresses of hate, even over trivial things. But there’s something about seeing an aspect of the world that has brought me nothing buy joy and peace callously defamed, that it’s hard for me to hold my tongue.
I know I’m not the only one. Do you know the feeling that I’m talking about? What are the things you see people decry that upset you and make you want to lash out in defence of what you love?
