Stephen Curry
Stephen Curry is well known for his unbelievable three point shots. He has led his team Golden State Warriors to NBA championship three times “in 2014–15, 2016–17, and 2017–18 and to the best regular-season record in league history (73–9) in 2015–16. Curry earned his second consecutive MVP award for his efforts and became the first person to be voted MVP unanimously. ” — britannica.com
The point of this article is not so much about Curry’s success in NBA. Instead, I want to talk about his success as a father — and with his own father who is also an NBA superstar.
It’s All About ‘Father like son’
Stephen Curry’s father was an NBA player too. He was suppose to be a busy NBA player yet he has successfully balanced his family and work. He made sure to spent enough time with his two boys Steph and Seth and their sister Sydel Curry (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEphPunTjRM). He showed his sons how a father should takes care of his family.
Now being a father himself, Steph Curry is following his father’s footsteps. You can always spot him dancing with his daughters their family signature moves in the court and outside of the court. If you follow his YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URnJY09XvgI), you will see how much time and afford he has been giving to his family.
In one of his speeches for winning MVP (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2q7DPxQAvqA), Steph praised his father for bringing him up the way he did with tears in his eyes. He said, “Of course we know sport is important in our family. But there are priorities in life…There is more to life than basketball”.
His father could only looked at him with pride and felt secure about his son. To be confident that his son will be a good father because Steph Curry knows the priorities in his life.

Kobe Bryant and His Daughter Gigi
After his retirement, Kobe coached his daughter Gigi’s basketball team. Everybody knows that Kobe Bryant was one of the most hard-working NBA players ever. His athleticism was at another level. His work ethic was remarkable.
You could imagine what it will take to be trained under Kobe Bryant.
When he was interviewed about how he managed being a coach and a father to his daughter, he said “on the court or off the court I make sure she knows that she is first my daughter. Everything else come after that”.
How many children would love to hear this from their parents! The scores don’t matter, the championship doesn’t matter when it comes to father and daughter/ son relationship. They are the first team and would always be the first at heart.
He didn’t want her to remember him as her strict basketball coach. He wanted Gigi to remember him as her father because that’s who he truly was.
Parenting is not another job. It is life. You could be a champion in the NBA but it won’t matter if you let down your first team.
Your office staff may remember you as a good leader, your students may remember you as a good teacher, your congregation may remember you as a good pastor, your readers may remember you as a good writer, your friends may remember you as a good friend, your society may remember you as a good man. What about your children, will they remember you as a good father?
