I don’t want to rise and shine. I want to rise and cause chaos.
Not the kind that involves flipping tables or running through traffic in my pajamas, but the quieter, more refined chaos. The kind where ‘Yes, I will start waking up at 10 AM instead of 4 AM.’ It’s the chaos where I send an email without re-reading it 17 times. Where I reply ‘Sure’ to a calendar invite without agonizing over the consequences.
Maybe I will wear mismatched socks just to see if people notices. Or I will start a new book without finishing the last one because plotlines are merely suggestions, and who needs closure? I could take the scenic route to work, even if it means going 40 km extra.
Perhaps I will start having coffee with the stranger at the cafe. Okay, let’s not get carried away.
Chaos is also courageous. It’s choosing honesty when a polite ‘I am fine’ would be easier. It’s walking away from things that no longer fit, even if they once felt like home. Chaos whispers, ‘What if you didn’t compromise today?’ What if you stood your ground, laughed too loudly, and wore that slightly questionable outfit simply because it made you feel like a walking exclamation mark?
There’s a certain charm in defying the day’s predictability. In knowing that you could choose calm but daring to shake things up instead. Chaos isn’t recklessness; it’s liberation. It’s a reminder that life isn’t a spreadsheet to be balanced. Sometimes, it’s a doodle in the margins — half nonsense, half genius.
So today, I might embrace a little chaos. I will scribble outside the lines, eat dessert, drink cold coffee with 3 scoops of ice cream in it, and send that embarrassing meme without second-guessing. And who knows? Maybe the world won’t fall apart. Maybe it will simply laugh along with me.
So, today I choose chaos.
