(Edited 9.7.25) and how can you meditate anywhere..
There are many meditative techniques out there with the ultimate objective of developing a mentally and emotionally clear, calm, happy and stable state of awareness.
Which can be essentially reached when
- there is clarity in thoughts and actions
- there is awareness of engaged senses
- there is complete acceptance of the whole (saint and sinner) self
- there is an intentional understanding of others
OR
simply put for ease of practice, an absolute awareness on why & what you do, how you do and who you are!
A lot of people say that thru meditation they have been able to reach a state of thoughtlessness, which means that when they close their eyes they find a completely blank space with nothing but peace and quiet.
No thoughts, no noise.. just stillness.
It doesn’t mean that they stop hearing anything or nothing crosses their mind.. this stillness means that thru complete understanding of self and surroundings, the internal flow and sounds lead to no bother and only more clarity.
Maybe there comes a point of no thoughts at all but I personally have experienced it not that often. However, this process has helped me find a comfort and support within myself that I didn’t have before.
This music that I now play brings a joyful spirit, devoid of anger, fear, guilt or shame.
When you know yourself, your wants, desires, hopes & dreams, you find your every present moment free of envy and filled with joy.. when everything that’s done by you is out of sheer will.. it is bound to be a gateway to health & peace.. or healthy peace 😀
Within yourself. Around you!
I am sure everyone thruout history had a different definition. So, what it means by meditation for me?
Any activity I am doing with full awareness is a form of meditation for me. Whether it be writing, talking, reading, dancing, cooking, riding a bike, walking, swimming, sitting, washing. It may involve movement, it may not.. but as long as I have an alignment with all aspects of my nature and nurture, it brings nothing but more awareness.
It means that I will be more attuned with my present, without any craving and aversion (vipassana terms) from past & future!
Am I smiling more, Am i speaking the truth, Am i being real — isn’t smile the real truth? 🙃
Tells you a lot, ain’t it?
Are you smiling?
I am not saying that my all activities are with 100% awareness. No they are not (yet) but it’s getting better with time and constant practice. Adopting the wabi-sabi approach to life 🤪
How & when my meditation practices are percolating to daily tasks is something that I couldn’t have planned. It just happened.. like rains 😂🥹
How do i know?
I can feel that my senses are more actively engaged. I see (observe) more, I listen more, breathing is more deliberate, I use good words, I consciously try to keep my posture straight, I know what makes me, I can actively feel sensations thruout my body (esp. all body openings (10 M; 11 F), palms and feet — this I partially owe to vipassana technique), I trust my gut a lot more. (Altho unhealthy eating still needs some attention)
And this engagement of senses is not just when I am sitting idle but also when I am involved in some activity, some work.
Overall, I know myself significantly more than before — the good, bad and ugly.. past, present and future.. and I ask questions that matter (even when i am reminiscing the past or worrying about future :P) like why am i doing what i am doing, is what i am doing making me happy, would i be doing something else instead, do i remember my injuries, have i healed from them, do i take care of myself, am i rushing or taking one step at a time?
do i forgive or seek equal payback?
do i have something to look forward to?
do i take things personally?
do i have the courage to speak the truth?
are my actions dependent on others?
am i laughing at or with?
do i feel loved and supported?
can i speak openly & freely?
do i have clean intentions?
do i have the ability to slow down and flow like water?
Asking more is painful at times.. when you feel like you are going in circles. But a friend of mine told me, what seems like a loop is an upward spiral (like something in space) and even when you don’t know it, you are moving forward. It stuck with me. And I kept asking more.
This gave me clarity on how I feel and how I want to live my life and what I want — a window into who I am — my nature and nurture!
The pinnacle of meditations. 🎁
