What is THE sentence your spouse said to you that made you realize you were officially in a dead bedroom?
We’ve all had one or more sentences that hurt us so deeply that we ended up on this sub (r/deadbedrooms) looking for comfort. So, what was it for you?
- “Satisfying you is a chore” hurt me a lot.
- Me to my ex-husband, who frequently traveled for work: “When you’re gone, do you fantasize about me?”
Him: “No, not really.” - “What am I supposed to do, fake it?” I have never been the same since.
- After never having an orgasm from him, I finally gathered the courage to ask him to go down on me. He looked at me like I asked him to eat shit and said, “I don’t do that, I have no desire to do that.” Immediately went as dry as the Sahara Desert. I have not initiated since, but neither has he.
- “I feel like you only want me for sex” (After going a whole year without sex)
- “Now you know I don’t love you anymore, I can stop faking it.”
- Me: *walks into the room in lingerie
Him: “You look like a slut.” - “We are done. I no longer have interest in sex, so there will be no more. ….ever”
- Me: “Healthy marriages require a healthy sex life and intimacy.”
Him: “How sad must it be to care about something that ridiculous?” - When I said how much I enjoy foreplay, he said, “I just want to get it over with.”
- “I feel like a piece of meat.”
- I tried initiating, and when I was rejected, I rolled over, hugged my pillow, and started crying.
Him: “I should have just fucked you so you didn’t cry.”
Me: “Thanks, but no. Never, ever do that to me.”
Him: “I’ve done it before.”
Me:🤢🤮 - “It’s annoying when you ask, so stop asking.”
- When the box of expired condoms was getting thrown away, “Don’t bother getting any more. Not like you’ll need them.”
- “You make me hate sex…”
- I told him why I was feeling so unloved and unwanted, and he said, ‘Then go find someone else.”
- “That’s a lot of work.” He added, “I’d rather masturbate.”
- “I’m doing it for you, take it or leave it.” When offered very starfish maintenance sex by my wife.
- “I could go the rest of my life without having sex ever again, and I’d be totally fine with that.”
- “Can you just get yourself off? I’d rather sit here and scroll Instagram”
- “It’s not exciting. I know what to expect.” That felt like a knife. But she won’t work with me to try to spice it up or do anything new.
- My favorite — “You’re like a gnat.”
- “Vaginas are disgusting” — reason why he has never once touched my vagina. “I tried oral once and didn’t like it,” he said.
- “You married me, but I don’t owe you sex. My body isn’t your property. But you still have to be faithful.”
- “Why are you always pawing at me?”
- “I don’t care.” When I mentioned to him that we hadn’t had sex for over a year.
…
There was no going back with all of these.
It was the nail in the coffin of a dead bedroom.
The “I don’t care about your needs or desires” is said in so many different ways. Each one more hurtful than the last. It’s a brutal wake-up call for the neglected spouse.
My ex-husband said the infamous “I don’t care” retort at the tail end of our marriage.
“I don’t care anymore, either,” I muttered under my breath.
And I didn’t. I checked out both mentally and emotionally. The charade was up.
I wanted out.
