Matt Williams has been cheated on, but he knows that love lives on …
—
I’ve been cheated on. It hurts, it makes my stomach turn.
Angry words have been exchanged, tears have been shed, beers downed and possessions returned. But this time I have decided that even if the relationship is over, even if I feel betrayed, love lives on.
That’s because, the one who cheated on me:
– is a wonderful woman who made a mistake and hurt me. Everyone makes mistakes and deserves to be forgiven.
– is a brilliant person who deserves, as much as anyone, to be happy, even if that is better achieved by her being with someone else.
– gave me a chance to prove to myself that *this* time, when a relationship broke down, i was strong enough not to fall into depression.
– reminded me that i’m not perfect and can have work to do on myself as a good boyfriend. But she also forced me to see that her criticisms of me were not true, but were excuses for her actions. This made me work hard each day at reminding myself that I have lots of qualities I like.
– prompted me to reach out to friends and remember how much I love them and they love me.
– reminds me that when i’ve hated in the past, it has only led to hurt and sadness for me and other people.
– blames me and and says she hates me right now, but maybe one day she will come to me to talk, or for help or to tell me about her life.
– has made the last six months of my life richer. I don’t regret that.
