Rob Plascencia wonders if he and his graduating class is ready for what comes next in life.
–
I wonder where the Class of 2014 will go when we leave high school. We’ve spent 13 years in the public education system to prepare for the real world and soon we will inherit the problems that our parents are dealing with right now.
I wonder how many of us will be prepared to face the current economic situation. How many of us will be held down by the weight of student debt, and how many of us will try to get a job without taking on that weight?
I wonder how many of us are ready to embrace new technology to prevent the threat of climate change. Will we continue our wasteful ways, or will we finally change? I also wonder how many people will continue to deny that climate change is real.
I wonder how we will handle the problems abroad. Will we be the interventionist generation, ready to aid developing nations and encourage greater economic development in destitute regions of the world? Will we stand by and fix our problems at home before helping out abroad?
I wonder how many of us are ready to accept these challenges? I know I’m not.

Sadly, 18 years after graduating…I’m still trying to figure a lot of things out.
