Children who are learning who they are benefit greatly by those around them who appreciate them, teach them, love them through each day.
I often ask fathers who are having difficulties in their parent relationships if they touch their children. The number who are is growing. I also ask if they wrestle with their kids, male and female, and most of them say no.
Wrestling with your child, while you are still bigger, is a way to touch and guide and receive with your body. Picking up a child is an amazing experience for you and the child. You demonstrate superior power and tenderness and care. We are beyond the macho times of fathers who cannot be challenged lest the kids get overwhelmed.
Taking the time to touch and challenge our children is also a time to challenge our own sense of touch, making it guidance in caring, play and appropriate use of power.
