A guy told me he was interested in me but that I seem to like younger men. Here’s the thing. Younger men are the ones who ask me out. I don’t know why guys my age don’t.
It reminded me of something I read recently.
It was an interview with Cher.
She was asked why she’s always dated younger guys. I paraphrase her answer, she said younger men are the only ones who ask her out.
Obviously, I don’t take all younger men seriously.
I called for a ride when I left my son’s birthday a few months ago. The driver was super sweet and chatty. And then the questions started to get odd.
He told me I didn’t look like I had a son that age. He asked me if I dated much. He wanted to know what dating after divorce was like. As we neared my apartment, he asked me if I liked younger men.
“Would you go on a date with me?” he said.
“How old are you?” I asked.
“I’m 29,” he said.
I couldn’t jump out of the car fast enough.
I don’t take guys that young seriously.
They’re looking for an adventure.
They don’t necessarily care how old I am.
But in the past six months, the guys who have asked me out have been at least 10 years younger, and some have been 15 years younger. At least the men I feel that I can take seriously. I don’t take anyone under that age seriously.
Maybe it’s just a sign of the times.
Maybe men don’t care about age anymore.
Or some men don’t.
Maybe women are finally getting the equal opportunity men used to get.
Or maybe men my age are looking for younger women, and younger men are more progressive about not necessarily looking for a show pony.
I’ve been told I look a few years younger than I am. I hope that’s it. And not that I don’t act my age. I say that jokingly, because I always say that I want to chase my youth, not catch it.
I want to defy age.
Not ridicule it.
I honestly think it is a different time.
I think anything goes in the dating world.
It’s not about age, it’s about attraction.
I used to have a hang up about dating someone younger. I’m not so sure I do anymore. It’s not easy to meet people after a divorce. I think it’s hard to connect with someone.
Chemistry can be allusive.
It doesn’t matter how old you are.
You have to seize it, if you feel it.
