If you’re anything like me, you struggle to get a decent night of sleep and regardless of your parental status you have always struggled to get a decent night of sleep. You see all these magical solutions, and some of them aren’t half bad (like this one from the Huffington Post. Just make sure you and your partner are on the same page). And then there are ones that always include having great sex to help you get a good night of sleep (with the added bonus of having a stronger connection to your partner!).
I don’t know what magic is behind these Facebook algorithms that bring the news I consume to me, but the sexy suggestions always crop up in my news feed after a night—or many—of sleeplessness caused by my children.
“Great sex!?” I howl to myself in my mind. “That’s how I got into this sleep-deprived mess in the first place!”
In my opinion, at this time more than any other in your life, sleep and sex are intertwined in ways they may not be before or after the intensive period of having (and yes, making) young children. Having a few weeks of decent sleep might even make you decide it would be great to add another member to your family!
So, during this period in your life communicate with your partner about your sexy expectations and be kind to yourself and to your partner. Maybe you decide to set a goal to have sex once a week but you keep falling asleep. That’s okay, it happens. It doesn’t mean you’re not attracted to each other. It just means you’re exhausted. If it gets to be a problem, talk about it.
