There’s this moment – quiet and heavy – when you look at the mess in your room, the unopened emails, the unread messages, and you don’t feel motivation.
You feel shame instead.
Not because you can’t do it.
But because you know you should.
You just….. well, don’t.
And so you tell yourself you’re lazy.
But what if you’re not?
What if you’re just carrying too damn much?
No one teaches us what emotional weight feels like
No one says –
“This is what it feels like to suppress years of grief.”
“This is how burnout silently creeps in while you’re still smiling.”
“This is what happens when you’ve been in survival mode for too long.”
Instead, we’re taught to push. To do. To try harder.
And so, when your body finally says “no more,” your mind tells you you’re failing.
Not surviving – failing.
You weren’t always this tired
There was a version of you that had energy. That woke up without dread. That looked at the to-do list and didn’t feel immediate defeat.
But over time, things just sort of piled up –
The expectations.
The emotional labor.
The invisible roles you play for everyone – caretaker, peacekeeper, overachiever.
The trauma no one sees.
The moments you didn’t process because you were too busy coping.
You’ve carried it all. Quietly.
So quietly, in fact, that not even you noticed the weight anymore.
Until one day you couldn’t get out of bed and thought – What’s wrong with me?
Here’s the thing –
There’s nothing wrong with you!
You’re not lazy.
You’re not broken.
You’re not unmotivated.
You’re just tired in a way that sleep alone can’t fix.
This kind of tired is different
It’s the tired that comes from holding your breath emotionally.
From keeping your life stitched together with silent effort and zero applause.
From trying to stay productive while your heart quietly breaks in the background.
And when you finally stop – when your body hits pause before your mind catches up – the world still calls it laziness.
They see what you haven’t done.
Not everything you had to survive.
Let’s call it what it really is!
Burnout.
Overwhelm.
Emotional weight you were never meant to carry alone.
You’re not lazy. You’re running on empty.
You’re still showing up, even if all you can do today is get through it.
And that counts for something.
A lot, actually!
Maybe your energy isn’t missing
Maybe it’s been spent – spent on things no one saw.
On being strong when you had no one to lean on.
On pretending you were okay because you didn’t want to burden anyone.
On handling other people’s chaos while swallowing your own.
So now, when you finally sit down…… your mind says, “Let’s get it done,”
And your soul whispers, “Please…… just let me rest for now!”
The world rewards visible productivity
But healing? That’s invisible.
So no one claps when you choose rest.
No one celebrates when you set boundaries.
No one notices when you finally let go of perfectionism and just breathe.
But that doesn’t make it less valid.
Or less valuable.
Here’s what you might need to hear today
You don’t have to earn your rest.
You don’t have to justify your stillness.
You don’t have to hustle your way back to worthiness.
You already are enough – even when you’re not “doing.”
And maybe this is the beginning of something softer.
Maybe instead of calling yourself lazy, you’ll pause and ask –
“What am I carrying right now?”
“What part of me needs care – not criticism?”
“What would happen if I gave myself permission to just be?”
Because your worth was never supposed to be tied to output.
Your identity was never supposed to hinge on performance.
You are allowed to rest.
To exist without producing.
To feel exhausted and not apologize for it.
So the next time you look at the mess, the inbox, the undone tasks and feel that lump in your throat.
I hope you remember –
You are not lazy.
You’re just carrying too much!
And you deserve to put some of it down.
Even if all you do today is breathe, that’s enough.
You’re enough!
