If you have been married, did you or your spouse change your surnames? If so, or if not — how did it go? Sociology wants to know.
In my research and teaching on the family, I have encountered a paucity of systematic data on the topic of changing names in marriage. So in 2019 I launched this survey, and 6000 people answered it, which was incredible.* Most of the respondents were straight women professionals or PhDs (reported here). I’d love to widen that in this round, and get a broader picture of the marital name change situation for a more diverse sample. (US residents only, for now.)
The survey also includes some open-ended questions where you can provide details if you like — these have been invaluable, and I’m now working with a student to analyze them. So, we hope you can help!
It’s anonymous, and ethics approved by the University of Maryland. Here’s a link. Or point your device at the handy QR code. Sharing much appreciated!

* If you took it back then, thanks! No need to do it again.
