Consider helping fund the documentary about Jimmy Santiago Baca, one-time jailhouse poet who’s still changing lives today.
One of the advantages of having a pretty big platform, like the Good Men Project, to shout from is that we can spread the word about small projects that might need some love. One that was just brought to my attention is this Kickstarter campaign for a documentary about one of the most remarkable poets of the last 30 years, Jimmy Santiago Baca.
Mr. Baca is one of those great success stories that you want to believe in, but so rarely turn out to be real. In the 1970s, he was serving hard time in the Arizona state pen on a drug charge. In prison, he looked inside himself and found a poet. Since getting out, he’s become a popular and award-winning poet, writer, and even filmmaker, an inspiring example of a man turning his life around with talent and passion and a little luck. His story is a powerful one, and you can learn more about it at the Kickstarter page. Stories like Jimmy’s are one of the things we like to showcase at the Good Men Project, and I’d like to see the documentary version, wouldn’t you?
