At first, I thought, “What the fuck is the guy who needs more cowbell doing jumping on wire?” Then I realized it’s was obviously a metaphor for patriarchy. The wire is patriarchy, and Cowbell Dude is men, trying to stay on top of it. Several times, he almost falls, but patriarchy always bounces him back up, to a position even more elevated than Madonna. Seen from below – the oppressed view – the wire itself practically disappears from view. Madonna, of course, is women. She unwittingly encourages the whole system by singing her encouragement, and bouncing up and down suggestively… Read more »
