Okay I admit it, I am as pumped up for a new album release today as I have been since…my mom brought home the Yellow Submarine when I was in Kindergarten.
I am really tired of the pre-packaged-Live-Nation tours of guys who really should be in a nursing home somewhere. Mick, it is enough. Bruce, I love ya but the live album was your swan song. And you released that 25 years ago. I am even tiring of Dave Matthews, the hardest working live performer around. Not to mention stuff like the Backstreet Boys and Aerosmith reunion tours.
Now today we have a fresh new sound of a band combines bluegrass sensibilities with rock and a narrative through line of guts and soul. Taylor Swift eat your heart out.
I stumbled onto Mumford and Sons when my buddy and I were on a bike trip in Death Valley. We were on a monstrous day long climb and the support vehicle was blaring the stuff. Ever since it’s been kind of my sound track for life.

There is something about that banjo! Farmer metal \m/. Their Sigh No More album was really amazing, I hope this one does not disappoint.
Lyrically speaking the band provides a vivid take on Grapes-of-Wrath imagery; always showing that there’s hope in a somewhat bleak world. They’ve found a musical niche that hasn’t been tapped in quite some time and have married the elements of bluegrass, folk and rock into a cacophony of toe-tapping, steering wheel banging fun!
If you like them, I also recommend checking out The Punch Brothers. You won’t be disappointed!
I am obsessed with Mumford & Sons. This morning they played live on The Spectrum on Sirius and it was INSANE. On again at 9pm EST on the same channel, I highly recommend it. Best band of my generation, if you ask me.
