He’s been one of my idols since his debut as Legolas in the LOTR trilogy two decades ago. He may now be a father of two and husband to renowned singer, Katy Perry, but he’s still my favourite celebrity. Besides acting and modeling, he’s a humanitarian ambassador for the UN, as well as an advocate of Buddhism, the environment, and dyslexia.
Here are a few quotes from him on the topic of being a gentleman (and his take on how we perceive romance and love).
Being a gentleman is a worthy goal.
Watch how you communicate with a woman. Because you’re always communicating, even when you’re not talking-with your body language, your facial expressions, your eyes.
People think getting a partner is like getting a new car.
I’m quite sensitive to women. I saw how my sister got treated by her boyfriends. I read this thing that said when you are in a relationship with a woman, imagine how you would feel if you were her father. That’s been my approach for the most part.
My cousin once told me ‘you’re tall, you’re handsome-and you’re gonna have to apologize for it the rest of your life’
Men treat men differently than they would a woman.
Maybe our generation is more into sex, but It feels like romance is dying out.
I’m completely in love with the idea of love
There are complications in relationships between men and women. There always will be.
If life isn’t about human beings and harmony, I don’t know what it is about.
Love is what we aspire to most of our lives.
When you start falling for somebody and you can’t stop thinking about when you’re going to see them again, I love that. Women are beautiful. They deserve to be cherished and respected.
Life is about balance, and we all have to make the effort in areas that we can to enable us to make a difference.
