It’s time to ask ourselves a question. How much of our life is centered around what other people want? You know, often people say that comparison kills joy and to stop comparing yourself to others. If you go to a bookstore or a library and go to the self-help section there will be a million books on how comparison kills the joy of our life and I get it. But I even bet that some of the authors of those books compare their lives to others from time to time.
Whether it’s TV, media, or advertisements, they make money on us, and they all make money on us comparing ourselves and finding ourselves lesser than. Whether it’s the house, the house, the job, the vacation, or even the marriage. When we compare ourselves, how do we begin to feel? We begin to feel lesser than, a little down, behind the 8-ball and we begin to feel unfulfilled.
We always want to have more and to have something that’s lasting, but in order to make it lasting, we must actually find true gratitude and respect what we already have because otherwise we really can’t move up.

When we feel unfulfilled we begin to strive for the next level, and while we’re not discouraging you to strive for your goals, unfortunately those goals fluctuate. We don’t ever find the happiness with what we have because we’re seeing what others have so we keep competing.
So how do we stop the comparisons and begin to see what’s really happening in our life. The first thing that we can do is to really want something. Whether that house or car or vacation, ask yourself, “If I get this, will it make my life really better?”
The second thing is to ask yourself whether an advertisement on TV is making you want to have whatever you want. Is an outside source telling you what you should get? Are they making you feel a certain way in order to buy their product?
Last but not least, whenever you feel down you must realize that you have a lot going for you and to find the gratitude in what you have because there is an interesting caveat in life. We always want to have more and to have something that’s lasting, but in order to make it lasting, we must actually find true gratitude and respect what we already have because otherwise we really can’t move up.
Because when you think about it it’s almost like a mouse in a wheel, you always go for something that doesn’t exist, when in reality we already have something pretty nice. So when we realize what we have in our own life and we’re being grateful for it on a daily basis, we can then move up on our life. When you move up it will be more lasting and fulfilling. Remember this and live your true life today.
