“Grief is just love with no place to go.”
Kathy Parker
Fall/Winter is a reminder to let go of the things that hold us back, leave us depleted, and are no longer serving us.
Gazing endlessly at the leaves this time of year is one of my favorite pastimes. The leaves let go of the branches so easily and they soar into the wind to end at their final destination. To rejoin the earth… the nature cycle continues. I believe the leaves do two things before they can fully let go: surrender & tie up unfinished business. Unfinished business of grief is what I am currently dealing with now. I’ve said goodbye to 7 family members and what I thought was a long-term relationship all within the time span of 1.5 years. The winter reminds me that every branch that exists, is there for a reason. A reminder to prune, to strengthen and leave no stone unturned before the coming new year. There is so much hope available to us and I’ve been able to tap into two things when I showed up for myself: community and self-love. While enduring this process, I just didn’t have time to entertain certain friendships and even things with work because I needed to tend to my open heart that was hurting.
We can learn a lot from the leaves. I am so envious at how the process looks so effortless. I’m here to tell you that the human journey of this process is not so… effortless. Surrendering and tying up finished business is freaking MESSY. I want to be like those leaves! This is my attempt to do just that by documenting my healing process in hopes that I may arrive at my final destination: Healed. I’ve also made a conscious decision to be a blessing to another person. I’ve found that a kind word or deed, not only changes my world, but also the other person. Look for the helpers, someone you else you can help and you will be well on your way to closing the gap on your healing process.
Today, I am letting go of the need to have a perfect journey. I just want to be able to say I soared in the wind and helped someone else along the way. The more I gaze at the leaves, I am also more aware that we aren’t meant to do life alone. Community is how we all expand and refine ourselves. I’m just a healer trying to lead with heart, with a passion for helping and vulnerability. I encourage you all to embrace your own mess, I assure you that we are all on the same tree together. What will you give up that doesn’t serve you today?
