Does your today look like your yesterday, last week looks like this week or this year is looking exactly like last year? If it is, it may be time to do things differently.
Break out of your comfort zone
We often complain about the way things are and the direction our life is going, but we are reluctant to make even the smallest changes to change our course. Instead of making the necessary changes, we rather live in our comfort zone.
A comfort zone is a mental state in which you lose the momentum to pursue a vision because you have accepted where you are as the best you need to be or do.
If you are exhausting precious time living in your comfort zone because of fear, complacency or worry, it is time to break free. I discovered a couple of years ago, it doesn’t take some great move of God, a special five step process or a magical catch phrase you repeat three times a day.
Make slight adjustments
I realized, most of the time it only takes a slight adjustment in your daily life. The adjustments can be so small and minor that we miss it looking for something big and spectacular.
It can be as simple as:
Getting up fifteen minutes earlier to pray, read or exercise.
Turning off the television for thirty minutes a day to work on your vision.
Listening to inspirational or educational information in your car while driving to work.
Spending thirty minutes a day learning a new skill or enhancing a current skill.
A better today
If you want your today to look better than your yesterday and your tomorrow to exceed your today, you can make it happen. You can’t afford to wait to get permission or approval from someone else. You can’t wait for the stars to align in the right formation. You can’t wait for the company to give you a promotion. It’s time for you to make your move.
We like to complain about the way things are and we often are reluctant to make even the smallest changes. Navigators know that a one degree deviation at the beginning of a voyage can take a ship on an unintended path. Similarly, a slight shift in our approach to life today can make a radical difference in the future we experience.
Where you are today is a direct result of decisions you made in the previous days, months, and
years. Your destiny tomorrow will be affected by the choices you make today. If where you have been determines where you are, then where you are determines where you will be. Your future will look like your past unless you choose to do something about it.
The choice is yours
Will you be satisfied if your tomorrow looks exactly like your today? If nothing changes in the next few months will you feel like you have made significant progress toward discovering and living your vision? Are you on the right path headed in the right direction or are you wasting time and energy on the wrong path going in circles?
You can be certain of one thing your life will not progress unless you make decision that it is going to be different. You are not a victim; you are a unique individual designed by God for a specific purpose. Where you have been is just preparation for where you are going. If you want to pursue your vision in full effect, choose to do something differently today.
Don’t worry if everything does not happen as fast as you want. Don’t throw in the towel if you do not get support from the people you thought would support you. Don’t think doing things differently won’t work today because you failed yesterday. The choice is yours whether you live life differently or you keep living the same!
“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
Question: What is one thing you can do differently today that will put you on the path toward living your vision?
