It’s no secret to those who know me I am an empath. This is just a term that means I can feel the pain of others and also absorb the emotions of others. Today has been one of those days for me. I’ve laughed, cried, screamed and a host of other things. Sometimes, life just throws you a curve ball and you’re not ready…that’s how it feels to feel too much. So as an empath I have a regimen that helps me to cope when I am feeling all the feels.
When I’m really feeling all at once…I will meditate. This helps to ground and center me when I’m feeling all over the place. I will consult a friend. This serves as a means to validate and strengthen me against any negative self-talk. When life is overwhelming, you need people in your life who can bring you calm.
Hold space for yourself. Make time with yourself and for yourself a priority. Self-neglect is unhealthy and also costly to every other relationship you have. Feel all of the feels. That’s right, don’t invalidate yourself. Scream. Yell. Cry. Express yourself in whatever medium feels right to you. Create art. Have sex. Go do something fun. Do the next best thing for yourself. Take the time to connect with yourself to get down to the bottom of why you’re feeling the overwhelm. Become in tune with your intuition. Learn to listen. When life gets heavy, be willing to stay open and engage. Love yourself fiercely. Say No to what’s not good for you. Pour into yourself. Buckle up buttercup. Life is not for sissies. Treat yourself like the royalty that you are. Lastly, get out in nature, seeing the majesty of the earth will help you gain clarity and peace during the overwhelm.
