If you are anything like me, then you made at least one article while thinking of a friend and tailored it to their specific problem (or attribute) and it’s a great gesture to do if they ask you to do it not so much if they don’t want to read about it.
One of the bad things when writing to a specific person is that you don’t know how they may react to your comments about their life, you may help them but for them it may not seem that way and it’s OK.
This is the risk you take when writing for your friends, I still believe it’s a risk worth taking if you can solve said problem
It’s a risk many people won’t see until it’s too late.
My advice is to write for a broader audience so you can help solve dilemmas you know are a problem for people around the world.
First, your articles will get more traction than what they will have if you tailor it to your friend.
With this I’m not saying that you can’t find inspiration off a friend or acquaintance but make it less personal so more people feel in sync with your article.
Another issue that happens is that your friends will not give a fuck of what you write about, so your article won’t get read by the person you want.
Most friends won’t care too much about what you are working on and if you have close friends, then you should talk to them face to face if you know you can help them (that’s why you’re close!)
The biggest fans and admirers are complete strangers not your friends, those people around the world that you give light into their darkness and helped them see the world from another perspective!
So don’t feel bad if your friends aren’t reading your articles, your attention should be on letting strangers know about your work!
Writing is a lonely road but don’t feel discouraged, as with all good things in life, writing takes time!
Much love to every single one of you “strangers”!
