There are endless skincare products on the market that claim to stop you from aging, decrease the size of your pores, tighten your skin, the list goes on. While using these products can be helpful, the skin is a complicated organ with several aspects to take into consideration that can not all simply be addressed with one magical product.
Cosmetic treatments are rarely one-size-fits-all. They require different variations and combinations with other treatments in order to produce lasting results. This is why you always have a choice when you visit your cosmetic practitioner. The more options you have the more chances there are of you obtaining the exact results which you are looking for.
Here are two treatments to add to your skincare routine that can actually decrease and eliminate wrinkles, treat pigmentation, sun damage, and scars, and help with the upkeep of your skin.
The first treatment was designed to treat fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, age spots, uneven skin tone, and scars. Fraxel is a laser treatment that uses targeted pulses of light to enter the second dermal layer of the skin causing controlled heat damage in subcutaneous layers of the skin, destroying cells in problem areas without actually damaging the healthy cells. As your skin begins to repair itself, extra collagen and elastin is produced, leaving your skin healthier, tighter, and less wrinkly. While Fraxel Dual is still not a one-and-done treatment for your skin, leaving it youthful and glowing forever, it certainly seems to have some wonderful benefits. Many people receive monthly or bi-monthly treatments to maintain their skin, but it is always good to ask your physician or dermatologist if the treatment is right for you before you go ahead and get it done.
Even if going to the clinic twice a month sounds a bit off-putting as you most likely have a lot of plans lined up, it’s really not that big of a deal when you take two very important factors into consideration. First, there is how long the procedure actually lasts. The Fraxel laser treatment takes anywhere from 20 minutes up to one and half hours, depending on how much of the skin you are treating. This means that you can potentially go to the clinic, get treated, and return to your daily routine all within a couple of hours. Even if you leave on your lunch break, you can take a little extension, get treated, and return to work, though it would be wiser to take the day off. There’s also the second advantage of Fraxel, which is that it is non-invasive, as in it does not involve the piercing of the skin. This means the recovery is a lot lighter and it will take a very short amount of time.
The second treatment can be used weekly if deemed appropriate by your physician and is called micro-needling. Microneedling is a treatment using a small tool that punctures your skin with tiny needles causing controlled damage to the skin, stimulating collagen and elastin production, leaving you with a more even tone and texture. Microneedling also has other benefits including the treatment of scars and the promotion of hair growth. While it can get a little bloody during the procedure, it is totally safe and has been used since the 1990s by doctors and dermatologists for a number of purposes. The main thing to keep in mind with micro-needling is that it shows improvement over time. One treatment may give you some results, but for the best results, you’re going to want to make it part of your skincare routine – not just a one-time facial type thing.
As with Fraxel, what makes Microneedling so tempting is how quick and effective it is. As miraculous as the results of certain cosmetic treatments may be, you will be asked to work for them, whether it is through post-treatment care or the weeks of waiting for the results to show themselves. Microneedling has neither of these problems. The treatment is minimally invasive, as the microscopic holes, it makes barely damage your body in any way. In fact, they start to heal immediately after being punctured. Within a few days following the treatment, these microscopic holes will heal and your skin will be fresh and supple.
The recovery after Microneedling is also very easy to get through as it requires little to no maintenance on your end. Other than using your normal skincare products and keeping the skin moisturized, there is very little else you need to do. Since your body handles the majority of the work following the procedure, there is nothing much for you to do besides to wait and be a little extra careful with the treated area. The skin will be a little more sensitive after the treatment which is natural as it needs time to properly recuperate. During this period, you may be asked to avoid other cosmetic treatments, as well as putting too much pressure on your skin. This will ensure a speedy recovery and that you get the precise results you were asking for.
Both treatments require proper hydration of the skin post-procedure and your doctor may offer you a cream or serum to use after to aid in the healing process. While micro-needling usually just leaves you with some redness and puffiness, Fraxel does come with some downtime, though nowhere near as much as many other similar cosmetic treatments. But it does need this time as it essentially heals as a sunburn would.
As mentioned above, your skin requires (and deserves) a lot of attention. One cream, serum, or treatment will likely not do much for you. It’s all about maintenance and medical-grade facials to keep your skin healthy and glowing in the long run. Keeping this routine going will ensure that you always look vibrant and your skin glows looking as fresh and young as it ever was.
