Escapism: THUNDERCATS Return in New Cartoon Network Series

The Thundercats have been resurrected and retooled for a new generation of kids. This latest iteration promises to be a bit edgier than the 1980’s original. THUNDERCATS, the 1980's animated classic, returns in a whole new series with an anime edge on Cartoon Network. The one-hour series premiere is Friday, July 29 at 8/7c. While the original series had a hazy glam rock vibe to it, this new series has shaken off the glitter and gone for a more action-packed no nonsense attitude …

To take the Thundercats legend and do the work of a truly excellent animated relaunch is pretty awesome. We can thank the producers, Michael Jelenic (Batman: The Brave and the Bold) and Ethan Spaulding (Avatar: The Last Airbender) and the art director, Dan Norton (G.I. Joe: Resolute) for taking this to another level. Make sure to catch it when it premieres July 29 on Cartoon Network.

Looks like the audience for Lion-O and company might skew a bit older this time around. Parents and kids across America might end up arguing over who the coolest Thundercat is. That’s how we'll know if this new version of everyone’s favorite humanoid felines has truly done its job.
