Every Wednesday at 12PM PST, Facebook and Twitter erupt into open combat as fans talk out "who'd win" in a battle between two well known geek-worthy parties, one starting every half hour. Wikipedia links are included to refresh memories on what everybody is capable of, and then it comes down to fans and the fight! Winners are listed in bold. #whodwin Wednesday!
This week, perhaps harking back to our interview with Kielen King, the show started off with Battlestar Pegasus versus an Imperial Star Destroyer (winner) …
- This is gonna' get nerdy and ugly so very fast…
- Too many variables. Is Darth Vader or the Emperor on board? Who's the admiral? If Vader or the Emperor is on board, fight's over. Also, Admiral Cain is a great admiral, but she is also hotheaded and impulsive. She may not think things through. Where as, if Admiral Thrawn is on board, he is cool calm and collected even when he has no Force Sensitive reinforcement. I give this battle to a Star Destroyer. "The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant to the power of The Force."
- Tough call. We factoring in the command crew or flat out tech specs? Up close and personal fight, gotta' call the Pegasus. But, Turbolasers trump projectiles. Imperial Star Destroyer could take out a Battlestar before it ever got with Dradus range. Yeah, I went there…
- Battlestar has nukes (which they rarely use first) and concussive projectile weaponry. ISD has energy weapons, forcefields, tractor beam and ablative hull plating. ISD wins fast, but if they let the battle go on without decisively blasting key areas on the battlestar, it could sneak out a win.
- In an argument with musician and Geek In The City podcaster Kielen King, he argued that projectile weapons could penetrate a force field, based on seeing slow approaches wade through force fields for droidekas. Likewise, he argued that a kamikaze attack on the ISD's bridge would take it out. I considered these ideas ridiculous because we're not talking snub fighters here, just capital ships and because — again — hard to fire main batteries when your whole bridge just got pockmarked by turbolasers. Add to the fact that a tractor beam could rip whole parts of the Pegasus apart … (NOTE: That was Komplicated EIC Hannibal Tabu)
- Here I'll make this battle quick and easy – an Imperial Star Destroyer commanded by Grand Admiral Thrawn – end of story – end of the Pegasus!
- Also, say what you want about the movies, at least Star Wars knows how to write an ending… Que fanboy hate in 3…2…1…
- I've already made my case (Kielen King made a note on his Facebook page in favor of the Pegasus) Better link
Next up was a martial arts showdown between Lady Shiva and a big winner from last week, Shang-Chi.
Oddly enough, the battle went unheeded for a long while … maybe people got tied up at work? He pulled ahead in late voting, but it was a horse race …
- Shang-Chi is master of Kung-Fu. Lady Shiva doesn't match up to him.
- (was noted that Shiva is a martial arts grand master) Then a draw would be in order. Depends on who is more ruthless.
- Shang-Chi wins hands down. Shang-Chi is the equivalent to Bruce Lee. Unless we get Wong Fei-hong, Shang-Chi wins
- Shiva would win if she could get the drop on Shang-Chi.
- Shang Chi wins … Lady Shiva becomes his lifelong concubine afterwards.
- In a bloody and brutal battle, Shang Chi wins.
- Shiva was bested by Tim Drake. Drake wouldn't have a chance against against Shang Chi. Simple mathematics.
Shang-Chi has some pretty vehement partisans!
Our third conflict smelled like fish: Aquaman versus The Sub-Mariner!
- They already fought each other and Aquaman smacked Namor down with a whale!!!
- Ow! Fish-lepathy in the house!
- As much as I'd like to Vote Namor, all you'd have to say is "Look, it's Sue Storm!" and he'd stop fighting.
- Depends on who the dirty fighter is. Would Namor fly if he wanted a fair fight? Lots of people have squared off against the Hulk.
- Aquaman wins. Telepathy kills and I think he is stronger …
- Aquaman over Namor? MADNESS! ABSOLUTE MADNESS! Namor would crush Aquaman!
- Aquaman smacking Namor down with a whole school of whales! Or perhaps a whale shark!
- Savage "harpoon for a hand" Aquaman may have a remote chance, but Namor, IMHO has proven time and time again (IMHO) that he may not be functioning with a full deck. His instability/psycho power I think would overwhelm a normally rational Aquaman.
- Aquaman is awesome
- This is madness! ABSOUTE MADNESS! Aquaman is beating Namor?! Inconceivable!
Aquaman
Oh, it's true … finally in a villain showdown, Dr. Doom went head up against the armored genius businessman Lex Luthor!
- Doom. Arguably Doom is smarter. I think also that Doom is more corrupt and evil. Luthor is about humiliating Superman. He just wants to be the man in Metropolis at the expense of Superman. Doom wants to conquer the known universe and beyond. Doom's ambitions are more grandiose than Luthor's.
- Is Luthor no longer dying of radiation poisoning?
- I think Doom would still eat him for breakfast. He would consider Luthor beneath him and have him eradicated like an insect.
- Doom wins. Magic wielding conqueror over corporate boogeyman any day.
