Q: How can you purchase a quality diamond without breaking the bank? Please list your top ways to save.
A: There is a large range of diamonds that will be brilliant, beautiful, and of high quality. We recommend only looking at diamonds that meet at least our minimum grading standards. We use a minimum of I color and SI2 clarity, or SI1 if a larger diamond – this generally avoids stones that are yellowish in color or visibly included. From there, we believe in maximizing the size of the diamond within your budget. It’s also important that the grading was assessed by a reputable lab such as GIA or AGS, otherwise, your diamond may in fact be a lower grading than what is stated on the report.
Additionally, if looking to save a little bit, buy a diamond that weighs just below certain “magic numbers”. For example, a 0.90ct diamond will look very close in size to a 1ct and there is a very large price jump at the 1ct mark.
Q: What are the top diamond engagement ring styles for 2021?
A: Oval diamond engagement rings are very popular right now, and round diamonds are always in demand. For settings, we’re seeing a lot of customers leaning toward classic solitaires with or without diamonds on the band, as well as three-stone designs. An engagement ring is typically worn for life, so a lot of what we create are modern takes on timeless designs.
Q: Please list how a man can determine what shape/size of the diamond he should purchase for his fiancé?
A: If your partner has left you hints in the form of sharing photos or a Pinterest page, then you’ll know right away which shape or shapes they prefer. If you’re not sure then you can’t go wrong with a classic round brilliant cut diamond. In terms of size, we always recommend purchasing the largest diamond your budget will accommodate, while still ensuring it’s bright, white and brilliant!
Q: How do you know the true quality of a diamond?
A: It’s so important to work with a jeweler you trust to guide you through the selection process. There are so many aspects of a diamond’s quality that aren’t even listed on the best grading reports. These include things like color tints and fragile inclusions. Having a grading report from either GIA or AGS is also key to trusting the quality of your diamond, as these are the most reputable grading labs and are recognized around the world.
Q: What is the average price that most men spend on an engagement ring?
A: We see a very large range in client spend on engagement rings. While our custom diamond engagement rings start at approx. $2,000, we’ve also created engagement rings well in excess of $100,000.
Q: How much should a man budget for an engagement ring?
A: This is a very personal decision. There are truly no rules when it comes to budget for an engagement ring – and there is definitely no need to look at benchmarks such as three months’ salary. A stunning and high-quality engagement ring can be purchased for only a few thousand dollars, but the price can increase quickly depending on what a client is looking for. This is a meaningful and personal gift for your loved one and it’s important to cater to their preferences as best as you can, while also fostering a healthy financial future for your family.
