So, fellas, we know that planning your wedding is usually one of two things for us: We either keep a low profile and stay away from the shrieking mother and best friends, or we learn pretty quickly that the best response from us is ‘Whatever you want’. To be clear, we are not mean, and it’s nothing to do with how much we want to spend our lives with our beautiful partner. It’s just that color schemes and guest lists are really not that interesting, right?
But for a minute, I want to talk to you about one part of your day, from the perspective of a male wedding videographer in Surrey. I want you to brave the planning committee and ensure you get a cinematic wedding film on the agenda as a must-have, and I promise you in time, you will be glad you did. You may also earn some ‘right this minute brownie points’ for showing an interest and being armed with a stellar argument – so really, it is a win-win situation.
You Have a Photographer – Why a Videographer?
Capturing the big day on film is certainly not a new concept, but it isn’t always as popular as traditional photographs. Capturing the live emotion is something skilled photographers can do and do very well. But when you record it to film, it is better than anything else. Your wedding day is also going to be incredibly busy, and you only get to see it through your own eyes. So, I will let you in on another little secret; it will be the fastest 8 hours of your life and be gone in the blink of an eye. The run-up, the preparation, the stress, the fuss, the arguments all take much longer, but when you create the magical day and join your lives together, trust me, it’s worth it. But many people who didn’t have a wedding videographer do suffer from a little bit of regret. Having a video of your day with motion and audio gives you the chance to re-live it exactly as it was. You’ll see things you didn’t clock at the time; you’ll get to watch your wonderful partner walking down the aisle again; trust me, it’s worth it.
A Way to Include Everyone
Although we also have things like live streaming, you may have cherished friends and family who simply cannot make it on the day. And if they cannot get to a live stream, they are in danger of missing out altogether. The video means that people who didn’t attend on the day, for whatever reason, can experience a taste by watching the compilation prepared for you. One of the best parts of my job is taking the raw footage and harnessing my inner creative artist to create the most perfect story that is totally unique to the two of you. And for those of you that have often wanted to be James Bond or lead the life of Matt Damon, you actually get to star in a cinematic film that looks like a movie all of your own. You could even hold a movie night with red carpet, champagne, cameras and gather your friends and family to watch the magical moments you spent together. It’s nice for any guest to see what happened from different angles as no one gets to experience everything during the day.
Future Planning
Without wanting to bring the mood down too much, your wedding video will also give you cherished moments of people you miss. Whether because they live or work far away or because they have sadly moved on. Going back and seeing these loved ones laughing, smiling, and enjoying your happy day brings a lot of comfort when you are feeling a little blue. As a kid looking back at old photos, it was really funny; black and white have become a thing of the past, and the graininess that almost captured the person but left him looking a little blank has gone in modern photos. Your kids (don’t freak out; you may have kids one day) and your grandkids will love to watch a movie where you get married and live happily ever after. I certainly would have loved to see some of my parents’ history captured to film and really enjoy creating these memories not just for the happy couple but also for future generations to come.
My Role
I’m not going to be sticking a camera in your face all day; my role is to blend into the background but watch carefully and capture the most critical moments. I’m not there to make you nervous; sometimes there’s a shot for the blooper reel, a genuinely hilarious moment, but these two are things you may be glad you have captured to film. My wife and I make a great team, and over the years, she has taught me how to see a wedding from the bride’s perspective, and I’ve taught her how the groom sees it too. Together this has given us the experience to create wedding videos we know are much treasured by our clients.
So, there you have it, I’ve given you the best arguments in the world to take to your beloved and ensure that you have a wedding videographer booked for your big day. Even if it’s your only bold contribution in a sea of excited giggles, I hope it’s helpful to see it from my point of view as a professional videographer.
