“I’m not happy with birth control being available over the counter. I get a little worried whenever we make hormonal treatments “over the counter” medication just because I know that hormones are highly habit forming.”
Like nicotine and caffeine you mean?
I’m not happy with birth control being available over the counter. I get a little worried whenever we make hormonal treatments “over the counter” medication just because I know that hormones are highly habit forming.

This would make it cheap enough that there’d be no reason to cover it by insurance. Video of Georgia representative proposing a law requiring intrusive demands before a man can get a vasectomy. Intentional satire, and it’s fun to watch her try to keep a straight face. Superglucose, it used to be a standard thing for men to say that they didn’t want to take orders from women. It seems like a pointless question these days, both because I think that attitude is pretty much gone… Read more »
Actual question in an interview today: “How do you feel about working for a woman boss?” I… why is this question even necessary? It doesn’t matter whether my boss is male, female, other, or from fucking Mars (which is like Mars, but a party planet). Why should it? I do work, you pay me. To quote Metallica: “And nothing else matters.”
@ AB
Sorry for the days long break between posting here, but I really liked your comment. It was very interesting to read. I was working to become a psychologist at one point in my because of how good a lot of them were with me. Then I sort of remembered that I really am not that good with people, so…
“No one’s arguing about whether condoms should be covered”
Speak for yourself! I absolutely think (and argue that) that they should be covered, given that, you know, they are pretty darn effective against not only pregnancy but also STDs. N.B that many non prescription things are covered by many health insurances, such as help with the cessation of smoking.
superglucose: Over-generalizing, or hyperbolic for a lot of them. A lot of them on the women side only are for “attractive”* women. Heavily focused on heterosexual experience for most of them as well. But yeah it does get a lot of the things. I think the best one is the conscription. Any country that only enslaves one of the genders is what we call an evil sexist. If you think enslaving people is truly nessecary you wouldn’t not enslave half the population. *found to be attractive by a sufficient ratio of the other gender to get those things to fit.… Read more »

A little ott but kind of gets the whole point of this blog in one go.
Blackhumor: Was that a response to me? Okay ” As the Institute of Medicine noted, owing to reproductive and sex-specific conditions, women use preventive services more than men, generating significant out-of-pocket expenses for women.14 The Departments aim to reduce these disparities by providing WOMEN broad access to preventive services, including contraceptive services.” the point of quoting this was? This says nothing about providing contraception to men. So this counter’s my argument that they are implementing the law in a fashion that discriminates against men how? They are providing “women*” with contraception only from everything I have found. But only for… Read more »
What really ISNT love is the type of “Love At First Sight” TM deal romance tries to sell us. This is very instinctual attraction. Something that, by design, won’t last at all. Not even The Honeymoon Period of a relationship. Good for hookups I guess. Instinctual attraction might be part of love…but if it’s all love is to some people, no wonder the divorce rate is so high. It’s also more than just buying stuff, or wining and dining someone. Real love is only asserted in the face of a growing evidence that its right, as you get to know… Read more »
From Daisy’s link:
““Give me a friend I get along with, have good sex with, and is willing to compromise, and I’ll build the love over time,” one man, a Colorado computer instructor, told me. It was as if he was echoeing the advice given to many-a-young-bride by the village matchmaker.”
This is supposed to be an example of a man settling for a loveless marriage? Seriously?
Maybe the study people need to review their definition of love. Because that sounds exactly like it.

““Elective surgery” as opposed to “contraception” in the language of health plans. But you don’t know that, or it would be part of your argument. And yes, I read Shadrach’s comment, and I am in fact aware of the potential existence of various male contraceptive drugs that do not presently exist in the U.S. market, which would also be covered by the actual law, since the law itself refers only to “contraceptives” without reference to gender. In terms of grownup facts, that puts me two up on you, since you’re quite clearly arguing from complete ignorance and attempting to look… Read more »
P.S. Also what Schadrach (@Schadrach): there are likely to be forms of male birth control in addition to Vasectomy that also meet your definition soon. Why would you implement a law in such a way as to be sexist in the future? (Which still ignore the fact that vasectomies are a real thing.)
These facts were already known to everyone else in the debate before you attempted to make a contribution. Kindly deflate your self-impressed sneering, because it’s making you look more foolish than usual.
@Noah: “The debate is over health coverage. That means that it’s about whether contraception should be covered by health plans. That means that it’s about forms of contraception for which a doctor’s prescription is required. All of those forms, from diaphragms to IUDs to hormonal doses, ARE FOR WOMEN. No one’s arguing about whether condoms should be covered, because they’re already not covered by health plans. If there were a male contraceptive pill on the market, something for which many people have been clamoring, then that would be relevant. But, as yet, there is not.” … Do you know what… Read more »

@Noah Brand: Aren’t there several varieties of male contraception in development currently? Ones that would presumably also require a prescription (since the ones in development are generally drugs, though not necessarily pills [including at least one cream and at least one implant])? Do you believe the policy in question would cover such a thing when it reaches market just because (I doubt you underestimate insurance company greed that much)? Or do you believe that a similar policy is virtually guaranteed to come about as soon as it does, or do you just not believe it’s even worth thinking about until… Read more »

You only get contraception if your female. … … …
Okay what the frack? Can we please stop with discriminatory laws? No seriouisly, can we please stop discriminating based on gender. Also can we please not equate contraception with “women’s”* contraception.
*Again, the plumbing commonly associated with women in pop culture.
P.S. Will we be able to add this to those snazy privilage checklists?
I don’t normally post in open threads, but Jesus CHRIST, Lamech. How low do we have to set the bar before your knee-jerk reflex stops hitting it? The debate is over health coverage. That means that it’s about whether contraception should be covered by health plans. That means that it’s about forms of contraception for which a doctor’s prescription is required. Hey I have a question: There has been that big contraception snafu, over the panel with no women. Now I hea two stories on this, a) Obama wanted to require people to give contraception to employs and religious groups balked. b) Obama wanted to require people to give contraception for “woman”* to employs and religious groups balked. Then they both tell me about the panel. Then a bunch of groups complained about how on a panel on woman’s health no women were included and that is totally inane. So either way there are a bunch of people equating contraception with… Read more »
So I’ve been trying to come up with a name for a new movement, one that is both feminism and masculinism in the same movement to basically get rid of all gender-based oppression. Humanism, Egalitarianism, even PErsonism – these all have significance with existing movements. So, going by the idea that “kyriarchy” comes from the Greek word for “master,” I’ve looked at what the Greek for “person” is. It’s Prosopo, so…, Prosopism? Too much of a mouthful? I’m really trying here…
