Likewise, actually. I was under the impression that it happened at the same time, but I can’t find anywhere directly mentioning it. There are some lines in Sure Shot that are an apology of sorts and plenty of places talking about them embracing feminism – but I can’t actually see any actual examples. So consider me confused =S
Boffin: indeed. Another example is John Lennon, whose early lyric “Run For Your Life” is essentially about stalking and threatening to kill a girlfriend.

The Beastie Boys have distanced themselves from their earlier lyrics so much. They’ve moved on, and admitted that they were stupid. So I think that basing anything off that is pretty dishonest.
I think it’s pretty rare to see artists do a 180 regarding offensive lyrics, especially to the point of not performing the songs that contained them. So in light of that, I think that it cancels itself out, at least.

I feel that, in many ways, the Beastie Boys at their height – when they were writing songs like Brass Monkey and Girls – were very immature. As MCA and other members of the band got older, they moved past that. So while we can remember them for those two songs, we can also remember them for their better songs, like Sabotage or Body Movin’.

They apologised for homophobic lyrics but not, as far as I can tell, for Brass Monkey. Indeed, they’ve performed Brass Monkey as recently as 2009.
