I never knew that I would be leaving Western Colorado to evolve an intimate relationship. My Latina girlfriend wasn’t moving with me to Mexico. She was already there.
Did I meet her during my first time living in Mexico? No. She didn’t move there before me either. Initially, I found dating Mexicans to be quite difficult, but it wasn’t my first time living in a Latin American country. In 2010, I lived in Ecuador for nine months. At that time, I was 23 years old experiencing a foreign experience abroad for the first time in my life. I was overwhelmed with culture shock and wasn’t ready to be in a long-term relationship.
The truth is that she never left. She is a native Mexican, born and raised in Ciudad Neza. That Mexican city resembles North Philly in many ways. Fortunately, there are beautiful parts of Philadelphia. I wish I could say the same about Ciudad Neza.
My girlfriend isn’t as optimistic about Ciudad Neza, but I feel different about its potential. A hundred years ago, San Miguel De Allende probably had more in common with Ciudad Neza. Now, San Miguel De Allende is the most mentioned Mexican city in dozens of travel magazines and on countless travel websites. Although, it’s hard to know how fast a city or town will become desirable.
I didn’t know that she was raised in Ciudad Neza because she often referred to her experiences in Mexico City. My intention was to find modern Mexican women. So, I thought they would be easier to find in cities like Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, and Tijuana.
