On the eve of the 2017 NBA Finals, Lebron James expected to be prepping for the much-anticipated trilogy series against the Golden State Warriors. Having split a pair of championships between the two teams with lots of legacy points and pride on the line, now more than ever would be the perfect time to cement all doubt from the critics.
But the ‘kid from Akron’ wasn’t met with the story line he had hoped for, he was greeted with racial hatred.
James, a father of three who enjoys summers like the rest of us, owns a summer home in the Los Angeles area. Notably, a place to have some time away in the off-season and positive vibes, never would anyone expect racial expletives riddled on the gate of his dwelling.
Filled with disappointment by the actions of the perpetrators, Lebron’s response was akin to a pivotal clutch shot in the closing seconds of series’ clincher.
Personally, this response thwarts all the bad that has ever surfaced regarding the superstar. He positions himself as a transformational leader with is on and off the court contributions, not to mention his state of emotional intelligence is off the charts.
Mark my word, regardless of what happens in this series or the many years leading to the end of his career, Lebron James will be a staple for what it means to be a leader—because he gets it.
He understands terrible people exist but success comes when “Light is shed on real issues in the world.”
Let’s continue the conversation.
