- When you are a teenager, being allowed to enter bars and nightclubs makes you feel all grown up.
- The defining moment for me, when I realized that raving might not be all it’s cracked up to be, was when I went to a party and saw a 12-year old girl sitting on the floor, tweaking on crystal meth. I just thought “where are this girl’s parents??”
- Going to parties sober is like going to a freak show, except with more sweaty hugging.
- This is amazing to people who are high! You will make so many new friends! And the Pez look like pills, so…added bonus!
- In the mid-90s, House music was starting to go from underground, gay, and cool, to popular, chachi, and horrible. I was also watching it happen to the rave scene in general, as dance music became more popular.
- PLUR. Mmmmmm….really??
- Raves in Toronto were in warehouses, converted skate parks, and nightclubs. Raves in BC were in the middle of fucking nowhere.
- I’m glad I avoided the “fashion trend” of huge colourful Modrobes pants, soothers, baby block key chains, and fuzzy vests. Some of my friends, alas, were not so lucky.
- Even though I went to raves semi-regularly in high school, it wasn’t until just a few years ago that I actually knew anything about dance music.
- Weird kids need social validation just like anybody else…falling into a sub-culture is a great way to do it. I just don’t think you want to get so into it that you lose your identity, because sub-cultures fade away over time, and you don’t want to be a 45-year old raver/goth/Twi-hard. It’s not a good look for a grown-up.
