- Ghosts are real. Or rather, it is easy to believe in ghosts when you are walking around at night in a huge ghostly castle.
- I really like middle-aged West Indian women. I still remember Casa Loma’s Jamaican gardener explaining that she is still so active and young into her 60’s because she listens to her body. When it tells her to sleep, she sleeps. When it tells her to stop, she stops. If you can internalize that, it really makes sense.
- Rich, old-timey people were super-eccentric! Example: The Winchester House.
- People spend a lot of money on weddings to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but watching it happen from the security entrance by the kitchen, every single one is exactly the fucking same.
- I really like to doodle. I can doodle all day. I’m a doodle-aholic!
- There is a class of old man who works at just about every place, who considers himself in charge and infallible, no matter what his actual job title is. And everybody has to work around him, because usually he is totally incompetent.
- X-Men was filmed at Casa Loma! Did you know X-Men was filmed at Casa Loma? X-Men was totally filmed at Casa Loma!!
- From the top of the turret at around 10 PM at night at Casa Loma, the whole city is laid out before you. It’s dark and beautiful and sparkly.
- Being a minimum wage security guard means you are always apart from the actual staff. Nobody knows exactly what you do (hint: not much), but everybody is nice because you are basically neutral and harmless.
- No matter how many signs you put up, every once in a while somebody will end up wandering through a “Staff Only” or “No Entry” door and into the kitchen.
being a security guard at casa loma sounds pretty rad. thanks for the post josh.
