Do you have trouble
talking about 25 year-old
rap songs?
Okay smarty, you’ve gone to a party and everyone is talking about music you’re either too-old, too-young or too-out-of-touch to remember. What do you do?
Contact me! Because I’m the master of pop culture cliff notes. As proof of this I offer up my quick and easy to remember analysis of Young MC’s 1989 classic, “Bust a Move”. Rather than listen to and attempt to understand the full 4:27 min song yourself, all you have to do is commit the following points to memory:
Verse 1: Don't be afraid to overindulge at a party or in life, as there are women who enjoy dancing with fat men. #BustAMoveCliffnotes

Verse 2: Don't be afraid to spend $5 on a movie when you're lonely, because an attractive woman might sit next to you. #BustAMoveCliffnotes

Verse 3: An unfortunate fact of life is that a lot of women seek wealthy men. Make sure you look rich at the beach. #BustAMoveCliffnotes

Verse 4: If your bff's bro asks you to be the best man at his wedding, say yes, because a bridesmaid will bone you. #BustAMoveCliffnotes

There you go. Now you have enough info to fake it until you make it!
Note: In the video, the filmmakers took some dramatic licence with the lyrics. In the sequence dedicated to dramatizing the final verse we see the actor portraying our surrogate run off with the bride at the conclusion of the ceremony, even though in the song itself Mr. MC very clearly says “A bridesmaid looks and thinks that you’re winkin/She thinks you’re kinda cute so she winks back/And now you’re feelin really fine cus the girl is stacked”. It is important to remember this because you can use it to potentially show up anyone who claims to be a superior “Bust a Move” scholar.
